Sometime prior to 1801 at Southampton County, Virginia, Chancery Court File 1801-040, William Judkins filed his complaint for a division of the land of Jordan Judkins: "To the worshipful Court of Southampton in Chancery sitting - Humbly complaining shew unto your worships your orator William Judkins That Jordan Judkins late of this County departed this life sometime in the year 1798 intestate being seized and possessed of two tracts of land lying and being in the said County of Southampton containing acres That said Jordan Judkins deceased was the father of your Orator William and of Samuel, Rebeccah, Cherry, Gray, Bynum, and Jordan Judkins and also of Martha late Martha Judkins Washington wife of Thomas Washington who is also dead leaving an only son George Washington an infant his real representative all of whom are equally entitled with your orator to a share in the aforesaid tracts of land. Your orator here represents to the Court that Cherry, Gray, Bynum and Jordan Judkins are all infants, and he prays that they by their next friend as well as said George Washington by his next friend, and all above named persons be made defendants hereto and he prays that your worships would decree that Thomas Pretlow William Bailey and Wily Delk may be appointed commissioners to divid the said tracts of land Equally between your orators and the defts Samuel, Rebeccah, Cherry, Gray, Bynum, and Jordan Judkins and George Washington assigning and setting apart to each one by proper metes and bounds one eighth part of the whole having regard to quality as well as quantity and that they make report how they have done the same and your orator prays for general Relief"
